Best Chocolate Cake Ever
This is our interior stylist's famous chocolate cake recipe. It is similar in texture and flavor to the Coca-Cola cake you might have had a church potluck, but this is better. The secret ingredient is the buttermilk.
LARRY WEST'S WORLD FAMOUS CHOCOLATE CAKE RECIPE STOLEN FROM WANDA
2 c. all-purpose flour, sifted
2 c. sugar
5 T. cocoa (get the best you can find)
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 cup of melted butter (though Wanda preferred Wesson oil, but as a health coachin in 2022, I can't recommend consuming seed oils).
2 cups of buttermilk (highest fat-never use low fat, but that's for another time)
1. Preheat oven to 350.
2. Mix all the ingredients in a bowl in the order listed.
3. Grease and flour 9 x 13 pan. Bake for 30-35 minutes but do the toothpick test to make sure it is done but not overdone.
Next time I am going to use a bundt pan which is why I am using this stock photo. My 9x13 pan kind of sunk a little in the middle because I couldn't get it to cook thoroughly through the whole thing. But dang, it was good. UPDATE: SOMEONE POSTED THAT SHE TRIED THE BUNDT PAN AND IT DID NOT WORK. So stick with the 9x13 and just know that the inside might be gooey.
Icing: In a saucepan, melt 1 stick of butter, 6 TB. whole fat milk, 3 TB. cocoa. Simmer and then add a box of powdered sugar. Let simmer. Don’t let burn. Pour over cake.
